Automatic Driveway Gates in Timber and Metal
Timber suits cottages, farmhouses and older properties, and can be built solid for privacy or open for a lighter look. Wrought iron and steel bring strength and detail, from simple railings to ornate scrollwork. Composite gives a timber appearance with far less maintenance.
Whatever you choose, the gate is made to measure for your opening and built strong enough to carry its motors for years without twisting or sagging.
Matching Electric Gates to Your Property
The best driveway gates look as though they've always been there. We consider the age and style of the house, the walls and pillars, and the height and privacy you want before suggesting a design.
We'll also think about practical things – how close the gate is to the road, whether the drive slopes, and how much room there is for the gates to open – so the finished automatic gates look right and work properly.
Then make them electric
Driveway gates are automated with CAME motors, including heavy-duty models for large or busy gates.
- Overground motors – the standard choice for swing gates.
- Underground motors – hidden from view for a neat finish.
- Sliding gate automation – perfect for short or sloping drives. See sliding electric gates.
Designed for your driveway
No two drives are alike. Before quoting we look at:
- the width of the opening and the space for the gates to swing
- whether the drive climbs behind the gate
- the posts or pillars, and whether they're strong enough
- where the power supply can come from
- how close the gate is to the road, and whether a car can pull off the road while it opens
It's all covered in the gate planning checklist. Wondering about permission? See do you need planning permission for electric gates?
Opening and closing your gates
Choose from remotes, keypads, video intercoms, phone apps and fobs. See access control.
Safe for the whole family
Every driveway gate we automate is fitted with photocells and any other safety devices it needs, then force tested to BS EN 12453 – that's what stops it closing on a child, a pet or a car. See gate safety and the law.

Questions people ask me
How much do electric driveway gates cost?
A complete installation usually starts from £2,500 for swing gates, £4,000 for sliding gates and £8,000 for bifold gates. See the full cost guide.
What's the best gate for a sloping driveway?
Often a sliding gate, or swing gates hung on rising hinges. We'll assess the slope and recommend the best option.
Should driveway gates open inwards or outwards?
Inwards, so they don't swing over the pavement or road. If there isn't room, a sliding gate is usually the answer.
Do you make the gates or just fit them?
We supply made-to-measure gates and fit and automate them, so one firm handles the whole job.
