Wrought iron gates never go out of style. Whether you like traditional scrolls and finials or clean modern lines, a good set of metal gates looks the part on just about any home – and they're strong and secure too.

Steel and wrought iron gates start from around £2,200, depending on size and design.

Made to measure

Every gate is made to fit your opening, so there are no awkward gaps or bodged fixings. We'll talk about:

  • Style – traditional, contemporary, arched or flat-topped, with or without decorative tops
  • Privacy – open railings, or solid or perforated infill panels for more privacy
  • Height – including any planning limits next to the road (see planning permission)
  • Pedestrian gate – a matching side gate for walking in and out
  • Colour – black is the classic, but anthracite grey and other colours are popular

Wrought Iron Gates Made for Carlisle Driveways

Every set of wrought iron gates we supply is built around one entrance – yours. We measure the opening, check the pillars and the fall of the drive, and agree the height, the pattern and the finish before anything is made. That way the gates sit square, swing cleanly and suit the house, whether it's a Victorian terrace in Stanwix or a farmhouse outside Brampton.

Steel and wrought iron gates typically cost £2,200 – £6,000+, depending on size and detail. Scrolls, finials and arched tops add character; simpler vertical bars keep things clean and modern.

Before we make anything, Adrian talks you through the options and sketches out what will work on your entrance, so there are no surprises when the gates arrive.

Automated Wrought Iron Gates That Last

Metal gates and Cumbrian weather need to be on good terms. We specify galvanised steel with a powder-coated finish, so the gates resist rust far longer than painted iron, and we size the hinges and posts to carry the weight without sagging.

Automating them is straightforward. We fit CAME motors matched to the weight and width of each leaf – overground arms for most entrances, underground motors where you want nothing on show – and every installation is force tested to BS EN 12453.

You get a Declaration of Conformity, the manuals and a 3-year parts and labour warranty, with servicing and support from us for as long as you have the gates.

Built for Cumbrian weather

Today's "wrought iron" gates are made from mild steel, and bare steel rusts fast in our climate. So the finish matters. For a gate that lasts, the steel should be hot-dip galvanised and then powder coated. Ask any gate supplier about the finish – it's the difference between a gate that looks good for years and one that's rusty by its third winter.

Making them electric

Metal gates are heavy, so the automation needs to be sized properly:

  • Overground motors – the most common choice for swing gates
  • Underground motors – hidden from view
  • Sliding automation – if a sliding gate suits your driveway better
  • Heavy-duty CAME motors – for very large or heavy gates

The posts or pillars need to be strong enough to carry the gates. I'll check yours, or supply steel posts set in concrete.

Looking after them

Wash them down a couple of times a year and touch up any chips right away, before rust gets in under the coating. Oil the hinges, and have the automation serviced once a year.
