Electric gates are our whole business, and we've been fitting them for 16 years. We design, supply, automate and install gates for homes, farms and businesses across Carlisle and Cumbria – and we keep looking after them afterwards.

The automation I use
For new installations we use CAME automation on domestic and commercial gates, with heavy-duty motors for large, heavy or busy gates. CAME is an established Italian manufacturer, and its equipment is reliable and well supported for spare parts.
Sticking to one brand means we know every part of the system inside out, rather than fitting whatever's cheapest at the time. More in the brands I use.
CAME Gate Automation for Carlisle Homes
CAME makes motors for almost every type of gate, from light single gates to large, heavy pairs and long sliding gates. That range lets us match the automation to your gate rather than forcing one motor to do every job.
Each system comes with the control board, photocells, remotes and safety devices designed to work together. Because CAME is widely used across the UK, replacement parts and extra remotes are easy to get for years to come.
Choosing Automatic Gate Motors in Cumbria
The right motor depends on the gate's weight and width, how often it's used and how exposed it is. A heavy wrought iron pair on a windy hillside needs a very different setup from a light timber gate on a sheltered city drive.
We look at all of that on the survey and recommend overground, underground or sliding automation to suit. Getting it right at the start means a quieter, more reliable gate and motors that aren't straining every time they open.
Types of electric gate automation
| Type | What it is | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Overground | Motor arms mounted on the gates and posts – the most popular choice | on survey |
| Underground | Motors set in the ground under each gate – completely hidden | on survey |
| Hydraulic | Heavy, large or busy gates – we service and repair hydraulic systems | price on survey |
| Sliding | A motor moves the gate sideways along a track | on survey |

Gates for every property
- Automatic gates for homes – easier comings and goings, privacy and peace of mind.
- Security gates – for businesses, yards, farms and any entrance that needs real security.
- Electric driveway gates – wrought iron, composite or timber, built to measure.
- Gates you already own – most can be automated.
Opening your gate
Remotes, keypads, intercoms, fobs or your phone – use one or combine several. See access control and gate remote controls.
Fitted safely, every time
With a motor fitted, a gate becomes a machine in the eyes of the law. Every gate we install has the right safety devices, a force test to BS EN 12453, a Declaration of Conformity and the manuals. Read about gate safety and the law in Cumbria.

Questions people ask me
How much do electric gates cost?
A complete installation typically starts from about £2,500 for swing gates and £4,000 for sliding gates. See gate costs.
Which is better – underground or overground motors?
Underground motors are out of sight, which looks cleaner. Overground motors cost less and are easier to service. The right one depends on your gates and your budget.
Do electric gates work in a power cut?
Not unless battery backup is fitted, which we can do. Every gate also has a manual release so it can be opened by hand.
Do you install commercial gates?
Yes – for businesses, yards, farms and apartment developments, using heavy-duty motors where the gate needs them.
