The humble remote is how most people open their gates every day, so when it stops working – or you need another one – it's a real nuisance. I supply, code and sort out remotes for all the major gate brands.
What I can help with
- Extra or replacement remotes, coded to your gate
- Lost or stolen remotes – deleted from the system so they can't be used
- Poor range – normally sorted with an external aerial or by moving the receiver
- Upgrading old fixed-code remotes to more secure rolling-code systems
- Remotes that work the garage door and the gate from one handset, where the systems allow
Gate Remote Controls Supplied in Carlisle
Lost a remote, need a spare, or have a remote that's stopped working? We supply and programme replacement gate remotes for the major brands, so the whole household can get in and out easily.
We can also help if you've moved into a house with electric gates and have no idea which remotes work with them. Send us a photo of the motor or the receiver and we'll find the right handset.
Programming Remotes for Your Electric Gates
New remotes have to be paired with the gate's receiver before they'll work. We code them in, remove any lost remotes from the system if needed, and check that the gate responds properly.
If the remote isn't the problem, we'll look at the receiver, the aerial and the control board. We repair all the major brands across Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway.
Rolling code vs fixed code
Older remotes often send the same signal every time (fixed code), which can be copied. Modern remotes use rolling codes – the signal changes every press – which is far more secure. If your system is old and fixed-code, it may be worth upgrading the receiver.
Range
Gate remotes normally work from a reasonable distance, but range can drop because of:
- a weak battery in the remote
- the receiver aerial being hidden inside a metal box or behind a wall
- interference from other radio equipment nearby
- heavy rain, trees or buildings in the way
An external aerial mounted up high often makes a large difference.

Questions people ask me
Can I get a replacement remote for my gate?
Yes, for all the major brands. Send over a photo of your existing remote or the motor and I'll match it.
Will a cheap universal remote work?
Sometimes, with older fixed-code systems. With modern rolling-code systems, you normally need the manufacturer's remote.
I've lost a remote – is my gate still secure?
Get it deleted from the receiver. Depending on the system, that may mean deleting all remotes and re-adding the ones you still have.
